344 | Outspend or Outculture? How the Brewers Won

Can a team with one of the smallest payrolls in baseball win the whole thing? The Milwaukee Brewers just did — and culture is the reason.

In this solo episode, Jenni hits pause on the 10 Years of 4Sight series to talk about the 2026 World Series champion Milwaukee Brewers, and the five culture principles that carried a small-market underdog to the franchise’s first title.

Jenni is a Wisconsin native who grew up watching her dad watch Brewers games, and she’ll be the first to admit she was never a super fan. Baseball struck her as slow. What pulled her in was her eleven-year-old nephew’s love of the game, and then a season that kept defying the odds. She recorded this two days after Game 5, running on fumes after weeks of travel, staying up past a 9:30 bedtime in hotel rooms to watch a team she couldn’t stop studying. Because that’s the thing about Jenni: when a team is working, she has to know why.

Jenni digs into the Brewers’ people-first belief in overlooked talent and what she calls the gift of belief, Pat Murphy’s conviction that leadership is love and discipline in that order, the clarity behind a clubhouse that decided to “win our way,” and the Check Game — the ritual that makes ego expensive for everyone from the rookies to the owner.

What You’ll Hear

  • Why Jenni paused the anniversary series for a baseball team she wasn’t even a fan of six months ago

  • People first: how the Brewers built a champion out of players other organizations overlooked or gave up on

  • Why “the gift of belief” is the thing great leaders give, and how it shows up in a roster decision

  • Love and discipline, in that order: what a 67-year-old manager who’s publicly owned his old drill-sergeant style gets right now

  • “Win our way” — leaning into what’s distinct about your organization instead of copying the team with the bigger budget

  • Why clarity sits at the second level of the culture hierarchy of needs, and why it’s where most organizations stall

  • Fierce feedback: accountability that runs peer to peer, not just top down

  • The Check Game, and what it costs you in that clubhouse to brag, deflect, or pass blame

  • Five planes to Tampa: what it signals when an organization flies its entire staff, not just the roster, to the World Series

  • Five questions for your leadership team this week, built on the Lead Culture Framework: assess, define, build, equip, commit

  • Jenni’s encouragement: culture is an outcome of what you direct or allow — you may not be able to outspend the competition, but you can absolutely out-culture them
